In the 1970s Pullman Standard built 1,150 Bessemer and Lake Erie 100T quad hoppers. These cars are made of Cor-Ten steel and only the panels that received lettering were painted black. The cars soon corroded to a light oxide red color and later to a very dark burnt umber or gun metal gray color.
